Taos Whole Health Integrative Care - Patrick Shaw, LMT

Ayurvedic Practitioner, Massage Therapist
Ayurvedic Medicine, Thai Massage Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy

Patrick Shaw has devoted his professional life to making the ancient healing wisdom of the East accessible to Western culture. In his massage practice, Patrick offers a unique combination of advanced bodywork modalities, integrating Traditional Thai Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Myofascial Release and Ayurveda, to bring structural balance and address specific client needs.

After graduating from the National Holistic Institute in 1991 as a massage therapist and health educator, Patrick interned at the AIDS Alternative Health Project in Chicago until 1996. There he embraced the 2,500-year-old tradition of Thai Massage, which combines sustained yoga stretching with deep muscle pressure and movement.

In 1999, Patrick made his first of several trips to Thailand to study at his lineage school, and upon return, began teaching Thai Massage to massage therapists and yoga and Pilates instructors. In 2000, Patrick began a long-term apprenticeship and clinic intern with Dr. Lee “Ganesh” Veal, D.C. in the Osteopathic traditions of Cranial Sacral Therapy, Myofascial Release and Muscle Energy Techniques. Utilizing these manual therapy techniques, he refined his focus to working with the fascial system, within the Thai Massage framework.

Patrick has also integrated his knowledge of Ayurveda, deepening his understanding of each client and their unique body-mind-spirit constitution, to his 25-year bodywork practice.

Patrick is an Ayurvedic Practitioner, working with clients to develop a realistic, self-healing program utilizing lifestyle routines, dietary and herbal remedies, cleansing and rejuvenation techniques, and yogic practices. He studied this timeless holistic science under the tutelage of Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute from 2002-2004, with further studies in Nepal and India. Since then, he has offered both private consultations and group classes on Ayurvedic self-care, plant medicines and food preparation. He also provides Ayurvedic oil massage and steam therapies for deep tissue cleansing and nervous system balance.

Patrick has lived in New Mexico since 1996, today he lives on a family-farm north of Questa with his wife and children. Along with his private practice, Patrick has been teaching Ayurveda and Thai Massage at UNM-Taos since 2005. He is excited to continue serving his community through Taos Whole Health!
