Taos Whole Health Welcomes Patients of Dr. Alana Benjamin
We are excited to welcome Dr. Benjamin, MD to the Taos Whole Health team on March 19th, 2018.
For the time being her panel is closed to new patients, except for children, to accommodate her current patients.
Dr. Hooper has limited space in her schedule to see Dr. Benjamin’s patients before March 19th as well.
Some Q&As for Dr. Benjamin’s patients:
Can I keep you as my doctor?
I will be moving my medical practice to Taos Whole Health starting on March 19th, 2018. You are more than welcome to follow me to my new clinic so that I can continue providing your primary care. You are also welcome to stay at Schreiber Family Medicine to see another provider there.
By joining me at Taos Whole Health, in addition to my primary care services, you will have access to modalities such as massage, acupuncture, and naturopathic medicine. I truly believe that this holistic model of care is the way forward and I am excited to be a part of it!
How do I contact you at Taos Whole Health?
The website is taoswholehealth.org and has a wealth of information about the clinic and the practitioners who work there. Check it out!
You may also contact the clinic at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The fax number is 575-613-7161. Please give this number to any specialists you see.
The address is 1337 Gusdorf Rd, Suite O., Taos, NM 87571. A map is available on the website.
Will my medical records transfer over automatically?
I am hoping to be able to transfer the most relevant parts of your medical records electronically from Schreiber Family Medicine to Taos Whole Health.
If you have not already filled out a “Release of Records” form, you can fill one out at your first appointment. I will not be transferring your entire medical record, so if you would like a copy of that, please request it directly from Schreiber Family Medicine (575-751-7430) and/or Family Practice Associates (575-758-3005).
What insurances will you accept?
My intention is to contract with the same insurances that I currently do including Centennial Care/Medicaid, Medicare, BCBS, Presbyterian, Cigna, Aetna, America’s Choice, Christus St. Vincent, Fed Med MultiPlan, Humana, Molina, Three Rivers and United Healthcare.
I hope to have these contracts in place by 3/19/18. If I am not able to contract with your insurance company immediately, there is a 35% time-of-service cash discount available to prevent gaps in your care.
Please note that many of the other services offered at Taos Whole Health are not likely to be covered by your insurance.
How do I schedule an appointment with you at Taos Whole Health?
I will be maintaining more slots for “Open Access” in my new schedule at Taos Whole Health. I hope that this will be more convenient for you and will avoid my current 2-3 month wait times.
You will still be able to schedule appointments up to 6 months in advance, but will also have the opportunity to schedule more immediately for acute concerns. Please note that I will be continuing to work part-time and will be available for appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays only.
Where do I get my labs drawn?
Our medical assistants at Taos Whole Health draw labs on site, which I see as another great perk for you in terms of convenience. However, I cannot order your labs at Taos Whole Health until I see you in clinic due to limits of my malpractice insurance.
So for now, please continue to get your labs drawn at Holy Cross lab at least one week prior to your appointment. At your first appointment with me, we can discuss getting your next labs drawn at Taos Whole Health.
What services will you be providing?
My services at Taos Whole Health will be quite similar to my current practice.
I will be offering primary care including preventative care, urgent care, management of chronic conditions (like high blood pressure and diabetes), pediatrics (including vaccines), and well-woman care including contraception.
Are you accepting new patients?
I will not be accepting new patients initially to allow time for my current patients (you!) to settle in to my new practice.
I plan to re-evaluate my patient panel size this summer and will likely open up again to new patients at that time – stay tuned! The one exception to this is pediatrics – I will always be open to seeing any new patients under age 18.
When is all of this happening?
I am unfortunately no longer working at Schreiber Family Medicine. My first day at Taos Whole Health will be March 19th, 2018.
I deeply apologize for any cancelled appointments or gaps in your care over these next few months. You should still be able to get medication refills through Schreiber Family Medicine until I start at Taos Whole Health.
If you are having any acute medical issues, please go to the walk-in clinic at Schreiber Family Medicine. The other MD at Taos Whole Health, Dr. Joanna Hooper, may also be able to see you for acute concerns, so you can try calling Taos Whole Health to see if that might be a possibility.
