Family Medicine Physician, MD
Board Certified in Family Medicine
Dr. Alana Benjamin grew up in Northern New Mexico and feels so at home in this beautiful landscape and unique blend of cultures. She is excited to be a part of the wonderful team of healers at Taos Whole Health as she feels like this collaborative model of care is the way forward in medicine and is thrilled to be a part of this movement.
Dr. Benjamin has particular expertise and interest in women’s health and pediatrics, but also enjoys the wide spectrum of family medicine. She always strives to provide patient-centered and evidence-based care and loves partnering with patients to make sure that they truly understand the potential benefits and risks of various therapies.
Dr. Benjamin completed her undergraduate degree in molecular biology at Princeton University and returned to New Mexico for her medical degree at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, where she graduated in 2007. She completed her three-year family medicine residency at the UCSF-Santa Rosa Family Medicine Program in Northern California and served as Chief Resident. This residency program emphasizes humanism in medicine and integrative medicine, which laid the foundation for her interest in this approach to health.
After graduating residency, she worked as a full-spectrum family physician on the Zuni reservation in western New Mexico where she did everything from deliver babies and emergency medicine to well-child and end-of-life care. She has been practicing primary care in Taos since 2014, first at Family Practice Associates of Taos and then at Schreiber Family Medicine.
During her spare time, she enjoys yoga, cycling, hiking, skiing, reading and soaking up life with her husband Tim and young daughters Ella and Joni.
